International Youth Council -& google wave

I have recently become the Communications Manager for the 7th Annual Youth Assembly that is to be held at the United Nations in August 2010. I don't really know what that entails. Before I got a swish title...I was updating the website (creating content and designing it). I also kept in regular contact with the google groups (ever heard of google wave? It is awesome-combines pirate pad, google doc's, chat etc). Although it is complicated to understand...and a little bit of a mess sometimes. It is still worth using.

Well, I recruited Simin to help me with media stuff as she studied journalism. She is really running with it and is designing a media strategy for the communications group to discuss and refine. Sean Flax is the International Youth Council's Media Coordinator. Jamie and him run the blog, writes entries, handles facebook and twitter to ensure everyone is updated. Sean Flax however has also added the Youth Assembly to a lot of event diaries such as MTVs etc. To spread the word. Esperanza Garcia sends out lots of press releases and pictures. She is an inspiration and I hope to be able to learn about networking from her.

So far....

I have attended four meetings and I have been assimilated in. They are all very interesting and active individuals who I am learning a lot from and about. I love new york but it is sometimes hard to make friends or meet many new people as everyone is working so much (especially as I am pretty much full time) and because I tend to be busy. Therefore, as this group is growing, I am meeting new people and mingling more. This and the class I am tutoring in Queens every Tuesday provides me with my basic minimum new interactions every week. I also try to add to this by socialising whenever the opportunity presents. Wish me luck on my NYC and IYC adventures.
